Holy Basil, also known as Tulsi, has been used in Ayurvedic medicine from India for centuries. Holy Basil/Tulsi - has also been classified as an adaptogen - enhancing the body's natural response to physical and emotional stress, while increasing immune strength and vitality.

Adaptogens help your body adapt to stress, whether that be chemical, mental or physical stress.

Holy Basil is a staple in our home!

Why is this such an important herb for us?

There are several reasons!

1. Regulates hormones and mental health

2. Promotes mental clarity

3. Anti-inflammatory

4. Regulates moods

5. Supports insulin resistance

Holy Basil aka Tulsi is an adaptogenic herb. Over time, it helps to relax the nervous system and thereby regulating depression and anxiety.

Holy Basil has been clinically proven to lower cortisol levels which can result in improved moods, better sleep, improved digestion and many other beneficial effects!

Holy Basil may help with mental clarity. It is great for those with ADD/ADHD and can be used alongside medication without negative interactions.

This Queen of Herbs may also help regulate blood sugar throughout the day so there is less fatigue and brain fog experienced. It is also known as a nervine - meaning it helps calm the nerves and decrease mental stress and has been used by many to ease inflammation and reduce arthritis flare-ups.

Personally, I’ve found that the effects of other natural remedies for anxiety and depression are heightened when taken alongside Holy Basil.

The leaves are a nerve tonic and also sharpen memory. They promote the removal of the catarrhal matter and phlegm from the bronchial tube.

The leaves strengthen the stomach and can induce perspiration if sufficient is taken. This is beneficial when wanting to regulate body temperature. Perspiration is also one of several methods of eliminating toxins.

Coughs: Tulsi is an important constituent of many Ayurvedic cough syrups and expectorants. It helps to mobilize mucus in bronchitis and asthma and is a popular choice for cold and flu symptoms.

Respiratory Disorder: The herb is useful in the treatment of respiratory system disorder. A decoction, extract or tincture of the leaves, with honey and ginger, is an effective remedy for bronchitis, asthma, influenza, cough and cold.

Kidney Stone: Holy Basil helps balance calcium and has a strengthening effect on the kidneys. In the case of renal stones from excess calcium, the juice of holy basil leaves and honey, if taken regularly, will help to expel them via the urinary tract.

Heart Disorder: Tulsi has a beneficial effect in cardiac disease and the weakness resulting from them. It can help reduce the level of blood cholesterol.

Children's Ailments: Common pediatric problems like cough cold, fever, diarrhea and vomiting respond favorably to the juice of basil leaves. If pustules of chicken pox delay their appearance, holy basil taken with saffron will speed up the process of elimination.

Eye Disorders: Holy Basil juice is an effective remedy for sore eyes and night-blindness, which is generally caused by deficiency of vitamin A. Two drops of holy basil juice may be put into the eyes daily at bedtime.
